Frequently Asked Questions
What are the Health Benefits of Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO)?
To create extra virgin oil, the olives are harvested carefully to prevent bruising and cold pressed to preserve flavour and nutrients. The oil itself has anti-inflammatory properties, and studies have shown that it can reduce the risk of certain cancers and promote bone health. Extra virgin olive oil also contains vitamin E, antioxidants and phenolic compounds.
What Makes Your Olive Oil Superior to Supermarket Olive Oils?
Whilst supermarket olive oils are generally created from a mixture of oils from different countries and potentially harvests. Our olive oils are single origin and produced from small batch growers from an early harvest and a fast cold extraction. In addition, most of our oils are filtered. This production process preserves the taste, quality and health benefits of the fresh olive oil juice but carries a significantly higher production costs than the oil blends.
How Do I Know Which Olive Oil is Right for Me?
The first question is the use. For cooking and frying, a mild to medium fruity olive oil would be ideal and for this particular use an olive which is made in the middle of the harvest would be perfect as well as more cost effective. If you are looking for an olive oil to drink by the spoon for health purposes, a high polyphenols olive oil would be recommended. It is worth bearing in mind that most high polyphenols olive oil tend to have an intense flavour profile, both spicy and bitter. For dipping, a medium to intense fruity early harvest would be best. For finishing dishes and drizzling, a delicate olive oil would pair well with salads and fish and can also be used to prepare dips and spreads, a medium fruity olive oil for grilled vegetables, pasta and risottos whilst an intense oil works best with meat, cheese and hearty soups.
