Moulins Mahjoub Mechwiya grilled salad 200g
What is Mechwiya salad?
Salata Mechwiya (also spelled Slata Mechouia, Slata Mechwiya or Mechwiya) is a traditional Tunisian grilled vegetable salad. It’s typically made from sweet peppers, tomatoes and garlic, all roasted until lightly charred, then finely chopped and mixed with extra virgin olive oil, salt and spices. The result is a rich, smoky, gently spicy spread or salad with a deep Mediterranean character.
The Moulins Mahjoub Mechwiya Grilled Salad stays true to this tradition, using simple, high-quality ingredients and no artificial additives.
Where does it come from?
Mechwiya originates in Tunisia, where it is a staple on family tables and at festive gatherings. The Moulins Mahjoub version is made on the Mahjoub family farm in northern Tunisia, using their own vegetables grown in organic fields. The peppers and tomatoes are grilled in small batches and preserved with extra virgin olive oil, capturing the sun, soil and flavours of the Tunisian countryside.
How to use it?
Salata Mechwiya is usually served at room temperature as part of a mezze or starter. Traditionally, it is topped with hard-boiled eggs cut in quarters, black Sahli olives, and tuna fillets, then finished with a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil. For extra heat, a spoon of harissa is often added.
You can recreate this classic Tunisian plate by pairing:
Serve with warm crusty bread or flatbread for dipping, or use Mechwiya as a topping for grilled fish, lamb or vegetables.
